KEN Hinkley will continue to hunt for consistent effort from his players every week.

That’s the message to come out of Port Adelaide’s six point NAB Cup win over West Coast in Alice Springs on Saturday night.

After the Eagles dominated proceedings in the early stages of the match, the Power booted seven goals to one in a twenty minute period to lead the Eagles by 34 points late in the second term.

Hinkley acknowledged the Eagles class shone through early in the match but praised the Power’s ability to wrest momentum back.

“They got away a bit, they’re a good side … but once we got some adjustment to the team we got ourselves back into the contest,” said Hinkley

While the Power’s goal spurt encouraged Hinkley, he wants it to become a consistent facet of the club’s game after the Eagles turned the momentum back in its favour late in the match.

“It’s more about a consistent effort over a long period of time,” he said.

“One quarter is good for the players to know they can play that sort of footy, but it’s important they back that up.

“What they’ve done tonight is show a bit of courage about the way they want to play and the want to win.”

The thirst for victory is evident in Port’s playing group and Hinkley is keen to continue the club’s winning ways in the lead up to round one.

Port will play Sydney in the final NAB Cup round on Saturday with a one-week sabbatical between that and the opening match of the premiership season.

“We don’t make any secret that every time we play we want to win,” said Hinkley.

“We need to get some wins on the board whether that’s in the pre-season, through the home and away season.

“It’s always important no matter when you turn up that you turn up and play the right way.”
