A THREE-GOAL performance for North has seen Nathan Blee rated as Port Adelaide's best player in the SANFL for Round 17.

After a patchy first quarter, Blee contributed significantly to the Roosters' dominant win over South at Prospect Oval.

Blee proved dangerous in his midfield role and showed improvement in his ability to attack the ball according to the Power's football development manager Daniel Healy.

Port getting more from Moore

"Bleesy started scratchy with only a couple of touches but after that he was pretty good," Healy told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"His side really dominated the game and he went on to kick three goals.

"I was happy to see him work hard to improve his repeat efforts and get involved in the game time and time again.

"Overall it was a pretty good performance."

Mason Shaw played in his now-usual ruck/forward role for the losing South Adelaide side, but found life difficult as North kicked away to a 105-point win.

"He took two marks inside 50 in the first quarter, one as a ruckman floating forward and the other as a forward," said Healy.

"He missed both shots which was disappointing and from there he didn't get too many more opportunities."
Port Adelaide's SANFL team ground out a win over Glenelg at Alberton on Saturday thanks to the contributions of several of the club's AFL-listed players.

The standout was Aaron Young, who played his best game for the Magpies according to development coach Stuart Cochrane.

"Youngy had a bit of a breakthrough game at the Maggies," Cochrane told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"He'd been hovering around the mid-teens for possessions since joining the team, but he improved to 23 possessions playing at half-forward.

"He played with intensity around stoppages and did some really strong stuff in close.

"It was good to see him step his game up another level."

Teammate Ben Newton maintained his good form for the Magpies playing as both a forward and a follower.

"Another solid game from Newts - not as much impact as previous games - but he's looking pretty comfortable with his place in the team," said Cochrane.

"He could've been a bit better with his ball-use but was around the same benchmark we've expected from him in previous weeks.

"It's good that he's getting some consistency in his performances."

The run home

Tom Logan returned for Glenelg but took a while to come into the game, eventually having a significant impact for the Tigers in the third term.

"Tommy played on-ball and didn't have his usual performance," explained Cochrane.

"Usually he really, really stands out with Glenelg and while he did get 24 possessions, most of those came in the second half."

Cameron Hitchcock put in a better performance on recent weeks for the Tigers and had a number of good plays over the ball despite his lack of scoreboard impact, while Justin Hoskin and Brendon Ah Chee struggled for the Magpies.

Danny Butcher (Port Adelaide) and Tom Clurey (Glenelg) lined up in the reserves game on Saturday morning and both had reasonable performances.

Butcher was defensively solid according to Cochrane, while Clurey proved a handy forward when he was moved further up the ground in the second half.

"It was Tommy Clurey's first game back in the twos and didn't need to defend too much," said Cochrane.

"In the second half he went forward and he looked good.

"He kicked two goals in the third quarter, drilled his kicks and had some really good impact inside 50."

Brett Ebert was looking solid in his return game for the Magpies reserves, but injured his hamstring during the second quarter and will require scans.

Norwood held off West in a close game at The Parade and Tyson Edwards rated the game of Matt Thomas highly.

"Thommo was the best of our players again for Norwood," Edwards told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"He played more midfield than forward and his hard stuff inside was good."

Boak: We'll rally around Ebo

Darren Pfeiffer and Lewis Stevenson both played defensive roles for the Redlegs but struggled to have an offensive impact during the game.

"Lewis was really solid defensively and I think this opponent only out-marked him once," said Edwards.

"But we'd like him to be more demanding of the ball and work hard to get the attacking side of his game going.

"Pfeiff started forward and struggled to get involved there, but looked more comfortable when he was moved back for the second half."

Brent Renouf had a strong third quarter with good ruck work to advantage, but was otherwise quiet throughout the match.

Nick Salter and Campbell Heath both played for the Eagles side that went down to Sturt in a surprise defeat at Woodville Oval - both struggled to get into the game.
