TRADE WEEK is underway and Port Adelaide will look to negotiate a deal with the Brisbane Lions to acquire young South Australian Jared Polec.
Polec wants to return to his home state and remains a priority for the Power during the trade period.
Port Adelaide's director of coaching and strategy Alan Richardson confirmed the wantaway Lion has met with a number of key personnel at the club, including senior players, and is "confident" the club has done all it can to sell itself as a employer of choice to the 20-year-old.
It now needs to compete with local rivals Adelaide to secure a favourable deal with the Lions.
The Crows have also courted Polec during his time back in Adelaide.
"(Polec) clearly wants to play in Adelaide (and) we think he's a player of enormous talent," Richardson said.
"He hasn't quite been able to achieve the standards that I'm sure he would have want to have reached.
"We would like him to be involved in our organisation, Adelaide are obviously keen to do so, we don't know what they're trying to do to make it work.
"But we're reasonably confident that we've done as much as we can, and if it is that he chooses us we think it's a great fit."
Richardson believes Polec would welcome a move to Alberton and has received positive feedback from the former Woodville-West Torrens player.
"In terms of the feedback he's given us, he's been impressed with what we've shown him here (at Alberton)," Richardson said.
"Basically now it will come down to the deal."
In keeping with the club's new recruiting ethos, Richardson says Port will prioritise the development of its current list instead of pursuing key position players through the trade and free agency periods.
But he wouldn't deny a suitable key forward coming to Alberton should the opportunity arise.
"Our improvement will come from the list we have, there's no doubt," Richardson said.
"If a big power tall-forward jumped out of the trees somewhere then we'd certainly look at that, but that's unlikely (to happen)."
Richardson ruled out making a move for delisted Geelong forward James Podsiadly.
portadelaidefc.com.au's Off Season Hub will cover all the trade and free agency moves and action involving the club over the next three weeks.
