AS A member of the leadership group, Port Adelaide forward Daniel Motlop was one of a number of players who addressed the side after last week's 50-point loss to West Coast.
Port Adelaide lacked intensity in the lacklustre performance and Motlop said he encouraged certain teammates to work harder on the defensive side of their game.
"We weren’t happy with the loss and the way we did lose wasn’t good enough," he said on Thursday. "We expect better than that, so we had a game review and brought up the negatives, and there were a few, and also the positives.
"We demand better. There were some bad efforts with chasing and tackling and we’re not going to accept that. We’ve got a pretty good team this year and there are a lot of blokes playing well in the SANFL.
"If you’re not chasing, tackling and putting pressure on the opposition, you’ll be out of the side quick- smart."
Motlop said spots could be created for Matt Thomas, Tom Logan and Nick Lower – who have all shown in the early stages of their careers that they're prepared to play that way.
He added that feedback, positive and negative, was important for the growth of the club.
"Everyone gets told what we think," he said. "We try to give good feedback and move on from it. It’s only to make our side better.
"If it’s bad feedback and the player takes it on board and does something about it, we’re going to be a better team.
"We’ll show a bit of footage of someone running and not chasing properly when we think he should have. All we do is stand up and say, 'That wasn’t good enough' and the other bloke says, 'Yeah, it probably wasn’t'."
