PORT Adelaide has started its 2013 campaign in the best way possible  with a 79-point win over Melbourne at the MCG.

The Power now sits atop the AFL ladder with two games in Round 1 remaining.

It was the Power's first win against Melbourne at the MCG since 2007 - the year it last played in a Grand Final - and certainly its most emphatic.

The visitors were unchallenged throughout the second half, skipping away to a 19.19 (133) to 8.6 (54) victory.

With multiple contributors on the scoreboard and pressure around the football and at stoppages, Port Adelaide was able to restrict the Demons to just one goal after half time.

But the Power actually set the tone in the first quarter, leaping out to a 21-point lead before the Demons worried the score-keepers.

Mitch Clark was the only threatening forward for Melbourne, kicking two goals in the opening term to signal his return from a serious foot injury.

Conversely, Port had a number of players put up their hand - Paul Stewart notably backing up last year's 5-goal game against the Demons with another three at the 'G.

Jay Schulz was most damaging for the visitors with four to his name, while club debutant Angus Monfries notched three as well.

Despite the wet weather, the high flyers were out in force with Schulz taking the cake with a monster grab on the goal line that was sent to video review. Amid some controversy the mark was paid, even though Schulz appeared to take the ball across the line.

Port took a 29-point buffer into half-time, and the Demons looked out on their feet in the third quarter.

The Power forwards took advantage, running rings around the Dees' defence, with goals to Monfries, Wines, Schultz and Cornes sending the margin out to 64 points.

Hamish Hartlett was unstoppable, with 21 possessions and two goals to three-quarter time.

Viney and Jack Grimes tried hard all day for the Demons, but the team was met with chorus of boos at the last change.

In contrast, a Port Adelaide chant echoed around the MCG as the Power continued its rout in the final term, leaving Demons fans shaking their heads.
