IT may only have been a NAB Cup triangular round, but number seven draft pick Ollie Wines has enjoyed his first matches for Port Adelaide against an AFL opponent.

Having played in the club’s internal trial two weeks ago, Wines donned the Power guernsey for the first time against St Kilda and Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Wines featured throughout the day, particularly in the first game against the Saints.

He told portadelaidefc.com.au of the thrill he experienced playing against elite opponents for the first time.

“It was awesome, you dream of playing for an AFL dream and I’ve achieved it now,” he said.

“It was an amazing atmosphere – no doubt the biggest crowd I’ve played in front of – and it was good to put all the hard work we’ve done in the off-season into practice.

Wines was lively against St Kilda and kicked a goal with his first shot.

“Any goal you kick you get pretty excited and it was pretty special when I kicked it,” said Wines.

“I think I’ll remember it for a while.”

The club’s newest first round draft pick is now looking forward to playing in the remainder of the NAB Cup and has his sights set on a 2013 debut.

“The boys helped each other, played to our structures and everyone played their roles,” he said of the club’s first hit outs.

“I’ve got to get picked in the [NAB Cup Round 2] team first but I’m looking forward to getting on the track and working on things that we can improve this week.”
