Premiership hero departs Port after 14 years
2004 premiership player and general manager - football Matthew Bishop will depart the club to pursue a new opportunity in Victoria's Eastern Football League.
Bishop originally played in the league prior to joining Melbourne and subsequently the Power for the 2000 premiership season.
He retired with 132 games under his belt in addition to a premiership medal won as part of Port Adelaide’s 2004 AFL Premiership team.
‘Bish’ was the club’s best finals player in 2002.
He retired at the end of the 2006 season and then returned to the club in a football administration capacity after a 16-month absence from Alberton.
He maintained the role of General Manager – SANFL from May this year and has been an integral part of the club’s football restructure.
Bishop thanked the club for its contribution to his career, both during and post-football.
“I’ve loved my time at the club and it was a difficult decision to make,” said Bishop.
“I’ve had a fantastic 14 years playing and working at the club and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time, made some great friends, had some wonderful experiences.
“Now I’m looking forward to the next run of Port Adelaide achievements, as a supporter, for years to come.”
The Port Adelaide Football Club thanks Bishop for his contribution as both a player and administrator and wishes him well in his new pursuits with the EFL.
