WEST COAST will be hoping to welcome back key defender Jeremy McGovern for Saturday’s game against Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.
McGovern served a one-match ban for striking in round 2, but will need to prove his fitness this week after rolling an ankle and spraining ligaments in a trial game against Brisbane’s reserve team.
High flying Liam Ryan will also face a test after suffering a corky in his side’s loss to the Lions on Saturday night.
The dynamic forward suffered a corked calf after booting his third goal and will be tested at training on Thursday to ensure he is fit to feature on Saturday against Port Adelaide.
West Coast coach Adam Simpson revealed on Perth radio this week that former Geelong forward Jamaine Jones was in contention to make his club debut against Port.
Midfielder/forwards Jake Waterman and Bailey Williams – who along with Jones were emergencies for the Brisbane game – performed strongly in the trial game against Brisbane and enhanced their chances of being discussed at the selection table while premiership defender Tom Cole, who was the carry over emergency, will also be in the mix.
The Eagles will name their side to face the top-of-the-table Port Adelaide side on Thursday evening.
