The Port Adelaide Football Club’s gala auction – Power Goes Safari – was bigger and better than ever before, with more than 900 guests packing the arena floor of the Adelaide Entertainment Centre last Friday for a night of safari-themed festivities.

The night began with guests entering along a jungle path, complete with tribal chiefs, exotic plants, bamboo torches and the sounds of the African Savannah.

African dancers then transformed the arena stage with tribal beats and singing, before MC for the night (and Port Adelaide’s number one ticket holder) David Koch welcomed guests to the fifth Power Goes event.

Bidding for the 26 major auction items was frenetic, with auctioneers Anthony Toop and Tim Threadgold doing some of their finest work to encourage bidding on items that included a dinner with Premier Mike Rann and Deputy Premier Kevin Foley, a Fijian holiday, a Panasonic home theatre package and Fos Williams’ very own snooker table.

But the biggest item of the night was a block of land located in Whyalla – donated by Power Goes Safari sponsor Ocean Eyre – and valued at more than $100,000. The winning bid of $90,000 came from Power Premiership player and current board member, Darryl Wakelin.

The night was a huge success with entertainment from the Dukes of Windsor and Jungle Jooce getting guests grooving on the dance floor. Power Goes Safari exceded budget for the club and the Power would like to thank everyone who attended for making the night great.
