PORT Adelaide players have begun preparing for the trip to the Gold Coast to take on the Suns on Saturday afternoon, quickly putting aside their come-from-behind victory over North Melbourne.

The Power turned around a five-goal deficit in the final quarter at AAMI Stadium on Saturday to defeat the Kangaroos by two points, and claim their second win of the 2012 season.

Coach Matthew Primus said the players had quickly turned their focus to the club’s inaugural journey to Metricon Stadium.

“They were talking about it at recovery this morning and the leadership group spoke to the players about getting prepared for that,” Primus told Foxtel’s Eddie McGuire Tonight on Sunday.

“While they enjoyed the win on Saturday night, they’ve moved on pretty quickly and they’ve got another game of footy.

“Gold Coast are improving like everyone else is. If we don’t come up there with our A game we’ll be in trouble so we’re looking forward to trying to get a win on the road.”

The Power will train at Alberton Oval from 4pm on Tuesday, with the public invited to watch the squad go through its paces.

Port and the Suns clash at 1.40pm (SA time) on Saturday afternoon.

Primus acknowledged his team’s character in breaking a six-game losing streak, praising his young side’s for coming back from so far behind.

“It’s been a tough six weeks and probably the last two or three weeks the club’s been under a fair bit of scrutiny,” Primus said.

“Probably for a couple of quarters amongst them we haven’t played too well, but apart from that we thought we’ve been cracking in and been pretty competitive but haven’t been getting the results.

“There’s been a fair bit of negative publicity, so it was great for the guys to be able to turn it around after three quarter time in an attempt to try and get back in the game and really get on a role.

“North probably kept us in it, but for the guys to dig and keep believing in what’s been a disappointing couple of weeks was great reward for them.”

Primus said the players’ emotion at the end of the game was a sign of what the victory meant to them and the spirit at Alberton.

“I’ve said all along the players are really committed to the club,” Primus said.

“They want to get better, they want to win more games than they lose. Just because things haven’t been going our way and we are a developing group, they’re as frustrated as anyone and the emotion you saw after the game was a reflection of how much it meant to them and you know how much the rest of the year and in the coming years they’re going to play a lot of footy together and they’re only going to get better if they continue to get the opportunity to do that.”
