MEMBERSHIP of the Port Adelaide Football Club has surged in 2011, reaching 32,581 at the June 30th cut-off date.

The official figure - endorsed by the AFL - is up 12 per cent on last year’s result of 29,092.

Port Adelaide President Brett Duncanson thanked Members for their commitment and the support they provide to the Club.

“These people are the lifeblood of the Club and we thank each and every one of them, be they long-serving Members, those who have re-joined us or those who have signed up for the first time,” Mr Duncanson said.

“It’s been a tough year on and off the field, but it’s made easier knowing that our people are behind us. It’s in difficult times when that support is most valuable. To experience such a significant increase in 2011 is a boost for every individual associated with Port Adelaide, be they players, coaches, staff, corporate partners or other supporters.

“The increase in Membership in 2011 is testament to their loyalty and faith in where Port Adelaide is going.

“Our Club has an exciting future, particularly with our games moving to Adelaide Oval. We know that is an enticing prospect for our Members who are an enormous part of that journey.”

The 2011 result underlines the significance of the merger which brought Port Adelaide’s AFL and SANFL supporter bases together.

“We set about bringing our people together as one and we have succeeded, contributing to this substantial increase in our Membership,” Mr Duncanson said.

“Many people said it wouldn’t happen, but the benefits of the merger are flowing through in many ways, including membership.”

The AFL reportable number is below Port Adelaide’s overall membership number because a number of categories are not counted in the official audit, as is the case at most Clubs.

“Regardless, every one of our Members is valued highly by Port Adelaide and we appreciate each and every contribution,” Mr Duncanson said.

On the back of reporting its 2011 figure, Port Adelaide is surveying Members via its email database. The annual Member Satisfaction Survey was sent out last week and recipients have Monday August 1st to reply.

Mr Duncanson said it’s vital that as many Members as possible fill out the survey to help provide vital and accurate information to it plan for the future.

“This is our Members’ chance to have a say and to be heard, and we’d love every one of them to take the time to fill out the survey,” Mr Duncanson said.

“It only takes a few minutes, but the information we can gain from your effort will help make the Port Adelaide Football Club stronger and more responsive, especially to our Members.

“By telling us what we do right, what we do wrong and what we do better, you will be helping your Club in the short and long-term.”

The survey asks questions about Membership packages, the game day experience, Club communication and a wide range of other topics. The responses will help shape 2012 Membership options and provide valuable input into all planning at Port Adelaide.
