JARRAD Redden has been named for Port Adelaide’s side to take on Carlton at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.

Redden debuted for the Power in round one against St Kilda and was praised for his first-up effort in the Port Adelaide guernsey.

He had 21 hit outs in round one before being subbed off late in the game - later netting 18 in a tough battle against key Essendon ruckman Patrick Ryder and then an impressive high of 26 taps against the Swans in round three with per cent disposal efficiency.

Illness and 8 weeks of maintaining almost full rucking responsibility saw the young ruckman earn a rest, but Port Adelaide midfield coach Shaun Rehn heaped praise on the young ruckman.

"He's exceeded all expectations but for a young lad he carried the bulk of the ruck in some pretty warm conditions through pre-season all through to round three," said Rehn.

"Hopefully he feels refreshed!"

Redden replaces ruck-forward Daniel Stewart who has been named on the emergency list for the match.
