Rnd 9 SANFL Wrap
MATTHEW Broadbent has continued his solid SANFL form, this week being named the Round 9 Power SANFL Player of the Week
Broadbent was good across half back and on the ball, impressing development coaches Darren Trevena and Garry Hocking with his work at stoppages.
The award is judged by the Power development coaches and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.
Matthew Lobbe and Daniel Stewart continued to stake their claim for senior selection with strong showings as they faced off at Prospect Oval. The full wrap is below.
SANFL Player of the Week
Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v Central @ Elizabeth) - Started a bit slowly but really worked his way into the game well. Looked strong around the packs and won five clearances, giving the Eagles a good chance to go forward. Kicked a nice goal where he ran and carried from the wing and will be pressing for selection this week. Finished with 9 kicks, 11 handballs, 5 clearances and a goal.
Nick Salter (for Eagles v Central @ Elizabeth) - Salts had a quiet first half but was still able to kick two goals and present the Eagles with an option up forward. Moved down back in the last quarter and was solid without being spectacular. Finished with 14 possessions, 5 marks and 2 goals.
Mitch Banner (for Eagles v Central @ Elizabeth) - A very quiet game for Mitch. Carried a bit of a flu into the game and that hindered his running ability. Finished with 5 touches, 2 marks and 2 tackles. Will want to build on that next week.
Daniel Stewart (for North v West @ Prospect) - Presented well all day but was often up against 2 or 3 defenders. Spent a bit of time in the ruck against Lobbe and looked solid. Was able to provide some great defensive pressure and kicked 2.3 in another impressive showing.
Daniel Webb (for West v North @ Prospect) - A great game for Webby, taking some strong marks around the ground and looking solid in the ruck. Used the ball well and finished with 2 goals to go with his 11 possessions and 7 marks. Continues to improve each week.
Scott Harding (for West v North @ Prospect) - Quiet game for Scotty, struggling to have a big impact around the ground. Finished with 7 possessions and 4 tackles playing across the half forward line.
Matt Lobbe (for West v North @ Prospect) - Had an outstanding first quarter and continued to be competitive over the four quarters. Worked hard around the ground to have an influence and was dominant in the ruck with 33 hitouts. Will be considered for selection.
Cameron Cloke (for Port v Sturt @ Unley) - Played forward with former Power Premiership player Toby Thurstans standing him. Worked hard to get the ball and had 7 shots on goal for 2.2. Good in the ruck with 10 hitouts and used the ball very well with his 13 possessions around the ground.
Jasper Pittard (for Sturt v Port @ Unley) - A good start back from injury with 12 possessions, 3 marks and 3 tackles. Ran well to receive and made some good decisions with the ball. The main thing is he got through unscathed and can build on that next week.
Danny Meyer (for Glenelg v South @ Noarlunga) - Played up forward, on the wing and down back and worked hard over four quarters, especially defensively. Ran hard for 17 possessions, 3 marks and an impressive 7 tackles.
Wade Thompson (for North reserves v West reserves @ Prospect) - A solid showing from Bullet but just needs to continue to work on staying involved in the game. Was good defensively and also kicked 2 goals.
Glenn Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Central reserves @ Elizabeth) - Another reasonable game from the Cougar. Presented well and looked sharp by hand. Needs to get to more contests to have a bigger impact on the game. Finished with 12 touches, 6 marks, 3 tackles and 1.2.
