PORT Adelaide coach Matthew Primus says that expectations to win are not just shouldered by the coaches of football clubs and are felt by the entire team.
Speaking prior to the Power squad’s flight to Perth yesterday, Primus emphasised that he will be treating Sunday’s match against Fremantle like any other during his tenure.
“Every game is important,” he said.
“It’s not about me (being successful), I know might seemed to have been this week but it’s about us as a footy club, about what we’re doing as a group...not about me.”
Primus says that his football program and the development of players will win games long-term and Sunday's game against Fremantle is all about getting back on track towards playing the brand of football he wants.
“If we play the footy we want, we’ll get a win,” said Primus.
“If we perform well, we perform well as a team, (and) if we perform poorly, we perform poorly as a team.
“I don’t see it as any bigger week than any other week.”
Primus is focussed on pushing his players through last weekend's poor result towards better performances for the rest of the year and has full belief in the Power squad.
“It happens amongst football clubs (tough results), you don’t like it, (but) it happens in the sporting world. We want to rectify it, we’ve looked at it and we’ll attempt to do it - not only this week - but throughout the season.”
“We’ve got a steely resolve about how we’re going to go about our footy and what we’re going to do this year - we understand we’ve got to be better than last year - our stats (show)...we have improved on last year.”
Port Adelaide plays Fremantle at 2.40pm (local time) at Patersons Stadium on Sunday 13 May.
