The Port Adelaide Football Club has hit 20,000 member as we strive to eclipse last year's tally of 36,624.

Silver Member Victoria Mousis became the 20,000th member and will receive a Port Adelaide guernsey signed by her favourite player Travis Boak.

Chief executive officer Keith Thomas said supporters had responded well to the We Are Port Adelaide membership drive since its launch in November, lifting numbers beyond where they were this time a year ago.

“The campaign is a defining statement about our club’s identity and its intention to put our supporters first, and Port Adelaide people have reacted very warmly to it,” Thomas said.

“But we’ve got a long way to go because we’d love to crack 40,000 this year and really let the world see the strength of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

“Membership is the best way a supporter can really help their club and we want as many people on board as we can. We want those who were with us last year back in the team, along with those who’d been members previously and of course anyone who wants to join up for the first time.

“Our members have a lot to look forward to in 2012, with the Power squad including all the new faces up and training under the strengthened coaching panel, and the Magpies back at work with their sights set on playing finals footy in the SANFL.

“And the club has an exciting future beyond that, with our AFL games to be played at Adelaide Oval from 2014 when the experience we had in the final round of last year will become a regular event.

“To take best advantage of that, we’d encourage people to sign up now because they are the ones who will be in the best position to get the best available seats at Adelaide Oval.”
