PORT Adelaide veteran Chad Cornes has announced his retirement from the AFL, ending speculation he will continue his career at new franchise Greater Western Sydney.

Despite the Power's mounting injury toll, Cornes won't finish off the season.
Instead, the 31-year-old will play his farewell game, as planned with the club earlier in the year, against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.
The premiership player and dual All Australian has enjoyed a decorated career at Port Adelaide, playing 237 games to rank third in the club's all-time games tally.
However, this season Cornes has been a victim of rookie coach and one-time teammate Matthew Primus' long-term approach to selection.
He's been limited to only eight AFL appearances despite displaying good form when given an opportunity.
The son of inaugural Adelaide coach Graham, Cornes made headlines when he was drafted by Port Adelaide with pick No. 9 in the 1997 NAB AFL Draft, but it didn't take long for him to win the Power faithful over.
He quickly became a fan favourite for his trademark passion and his ability to play at either end of the ground as well as in the midfield.
He finished third in the Brownlow Medal in Port Adelaide's premiership year of 2004 and finished runner-up in the club's best and fairest award in 2007.
