The Prince of Wales was presented with a Sherrin football by the AFL's international development manager Tony Woods, who is in England for the Elastoplast European Challenge match between the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide at The Oval on November 3.
Woods was among 150 guests at the reception, for prominent Papua New Guineans, Australians and New Zealanders living in Britain.
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will arrive in Australia on November 5 for a six-day tour, visiting Melbourne, Adelaide, Hobart, Sydney and Canberra.
The visit marks the Queen's diamond jubilee.
The prince joins US president Barack Obama as an international diplomat photographed with a Sherrin.
The president practised his handpass skills in the Oval Office with Australian prime minister Julia Gillard last year.
