PORT Adelaide leader Jackson Trengove remains confident key midfielder Travis Boak will remain at the club in 2013, after he and several teammates interrogated the wanted star over dinner on Sunday night.

Boak has failed to state where he plans to play football next year and missed another opportunity to put the record straight after the club's 58-point loss to the Crows on Saturday night.

Trengove said he didn't hold back when grilling the 23-year-old, but was satisfied with what he had to say.

"We went hammer and tong at him last night with what was going on," Trengove said

"We wanted to know a little bit as well, where he sat, just for our comfort.

"We were up front with him last night and he was back upfront with us too … we're very happy with where he's at."

When quizzed on whether he had made up his mind on Saturday night, Boak, who is said to be the recruiting target of Geelong, was non-committal.

While he denied Saturday's horror result would influence his decision, he maintained his choice would not be pressured into announcing his intentions.

"I'm happy playing here at the moment," Boak said.

"I'll continue to talk with my family and the club. When I'm ready, I'll make my decision."

When confronted with questions about supporters losing patience with Boak's drawn-out contract saga, Trengove appealed for those concerned to remain loyal to both Boak and the club.

"I think you've just got to stick with him and stick with the club, I mean Trav's a tremendous player, he has been for us for five or six years now," he said.

"His contract's still there he's still contracted with the club.

"In Melbourne they've built it up that he's coming back home and everyone starts to get a little bit worried.

"We're pretty confident he'll be with us next year … he'll speak to his manager and his family and they'll work it out."

Boak was one of Port's best against the Crows on Saturday night in what was a Showdown to forget for the struggling club.

Despite the result, Boak's return from foot surgery was a success, winning 25 disposals and kicking a goal.

But few others sustained the level required to compete at AFL level.

Facing an Essendon unit focused on redemption this week after a humiliating loss at the hands of St Kilda at the weekend, Trengove admitted the Power had to significantly lift its game.

Although labeling the Bombers "just as good" as Adelaide, Trengove said the club's ability to match up well on the Victorian powerhouse would hold them in good stead.

"We watch a fair bit of them, we match up really well against them and we always play well against them," he said.

"They're a really good side, they're as good as the Crows, they're a top-four side.

"I think we can be in this game, I think we're a really good chance."
