MARK WILLIAMS: Well I suppose they can only pick five or six best players and they always look to the goal scorers, they’re the easiest ones, along with those who have the most possessions. But if you have a look over the years at who has won our best and fairest, you’ll see that the coaches who vote on that award certainly recognise the defenders who do their job. They also get recognised within the team. This week, I thought Chad Cornes and Toby Thurstans were great. I thought Surjan was outstanding and Pettigrew had no goals kicked on him. There were some great efforts in the backline.---Peter Burgoyne was obviously one of our best players today, we seem to have so many options in that midfield now. I just wondered what difference you thought having him back in the side made?

MARK WILLIAMS: Peter provides an extra quality midfielder who can run, makes great decisions and can kick really well. So obviously the opposition take a great deal of notice of him and that means they have to really decide who they are going to shut down.
---Congrats on the start to the season Mark. How did you review the second and third quarter today because I thought we dominated without getting enough score to show for it.

MARK WILLIAMS: When the side is going inside 50 consistently but not getting the result we look at who’s kicking the ball, we look at the structure in the forward line, we look at who is getting to the fall of the ball. We also ask is it a poor kick or a poor decision or a poor set-up in the forward line. Or are the opposition backline just playing really well or do they have extra numbers back there. Having considered all that, we were very happy with how we went inside 50 on Sunday. We did also hit the post five times – that doesn’t happen too often. Sometimes with the mental side of not kicking enough goals you can lose a little bit of momentum or focus but I thought we persisted particularly well.---MARK WILLIAMS: This isn’t in response to a question but I did just want to add that before we all start getting too carried away with how we’re going, we’re playing Adelaide this week who spent most of last year on top and we finished 12th. It’s going to be an extremely tough game. In the truth of it, the consistency of our players is always going to be under question every week. It’s tough to get games into young players and get them to play consistently. Right now to be two wins and no losses is a fantastic start and great credit to the players and coaching staff but we’re anticipating some tough games ahead, we’re going to have to work very, very hard. We’ve seen some good stuff going forward and we’ve got a lot of improvement in us. We’ve still got lots to learn and lots to improve on and we certainly look forward to that challenge.---Editors note: We didn’t get many questions in for Mark this week.
