Your club is proud to play its part in honouring the contribution of Aboriginal players to our game, especially those who have played for Port Adelaide.

Every Power fan has a favourite memory of one of their Indigenous heroes.

Whether it’s Gavin Wanganeen’s magic and the breathtaking goals he kicked in the 2004 Preliminary Final against St Kilda, steering us towards our inaugural Premiership the following week.

For others, it will be Byron Pickett’s Norm Smith Medal-winning performance in that same Grand Final, or the earth-shaking bumps on opponents across the land.

We’ll never forget the Burgoyne Boys. Peter - like Gavin, a member of Port Adelaide’s original AFL squad - with his speed and poise in a pack, and his mercurial effort in delivering the 2004 flag. Then there’s little brother, the sublime Shaun, and his sixth-sense tandem with ruckman Brendon Lade.

Further back, we remember the “Flashy” spectacle of Fabian Francis; tough and talented in equal measure. And what thrilling memories we have of Che Cockatoo-Collins as he danced around his opponents, conjuring goals from impossible angles.

To say nothing of today’s Indigenous duo of Daniel and Danyle, Motlop and Pearce. At their best, they’re as good as anyone playing the game. “Mots” soaring for marks, scooting around stoppages and showing off his footwork while shooting for goal when he can’t see light between the posts. And “Pearcey” in overdrive, skating across the turf and letting loose with that rocketing left leg. Always a danger and never one to be ignored by an opposition.
