Cibo Glenelg SANFL Player of the Week
Jacob Surjan (for Port v Eagles at Alberton) – Terrific game and was best on ground playing on the ball and at half-back. 27 touches, 10 marks and 5 tackles to go with 2.1. His kicking was also a highlight, hitting a lot of targets despite the tough conditions.
Michael Wilson (for Port v Eagles at Alberton) – Wilbur was a bit quieter this week at half-back. The Eagles tried to drag him out of the play as much as they could. But he still did some really good tough things and kicked a good goal.
Nick Salter (for Eagles v Port at Alberton) – Couldn’t follow-up last week’s good form again this week, finishing with 9 possessions and 4 marks. Consistency is the key for him.
Brendon Lade (for South v Norwood at Noarlunga) – He started up forward but then moved into the ruck and did pretty well with 30 hit-outs. He did some nice taps but didn’t have the same relationship he does with our players and Matt Thomas actually ended up sharking a few of his hits! He had 10 kicks, 10 handballs, 6 marks to go with a goal – a pretty good return. He ran hard and hunted the ball well
Adam Cockshell (for Norwood v South at Noarlunga) – He’s starting to string some good form together. He played a bit in the ruck and a bit up forward, kicking 4 goals. Finished with 9 kicks, 4 handballs and 10 marks. He’s still developing his ruck role, but he’s really starting to have a presence out there. Adam’s starting to hae some consistent form and will be putting pressure on some of the guys in the Power side.
Matt Thomas (for Norwood v South at Noarlunga) – Had 19 possessions in another hard-running performance. Played really tough, had plenty of hand-ball receives and ran the lines well, so he’ll be in the mix for selection once again this week.
Ryan Willits (for West v Central at Elizabeth) – He was very good. Took 9 marks – 5 contested – and looked to be a real target up forward for West despite playing in a losing side.
Ryan Williams (for Central v West at Elizabeth) – He played a negating role on one of West’s midfielders and picked up 18 possessions himself. Some great chasing and tackling as well, something that we’ve come to expect from Ryan.
Marlon Motlop (for North reserves v Glenelg reserves at Prospect) – Marlon played a bit of everywhere, but looked really comfortable down back. He had 16 kicks, 4 marks, 7 handballs and 1.3. He still does two or three bits of magic each week, which is very exciting. Still developing his game and hopefully by the end of the year he’ll be pushing for an AFL game.
Matt Lobbe (for Port reserves v Eagles reserves at Alberton) – Played in the ruck most of the day but went forward late in the game. A good game again with 20 touches and 6 marks. He looked very dangerous when he was forward and Port named him best on ground.
Matt Westhoff (for Central reserves v West reserves at Elizabeth) – Quiet first half but had a very good second half. Finished with 9 marks and kicked 3 goals, including the winning goal. A good game overall.
Jonathon Giles (for Central reserves v West reserves at Elizabeth) – Dropped back to the reserves and played forward and in the ruck. Looked good up forward, kicking two goals and taking some good marks. Won plenty of hit-outs around the ground in a solid game.
Daniel Boyle (for Central reserves v West reserves at Elizabeth) – Played on half-back and amassed 19 possessions to go with 3 tackles. Played quite well and had a really good run from the back line where he had 4 or 5 bounces all the way up the ground.
