DANIEL Stewart has staked his claim for a spot in the Power side to face the Demons in Darwin with a standout, strong-marking performance for North, which also won him the Round 8 SANFL Player of the Week Award.

Stewart was dominant up forward for the Roosters and could have kicked five goals had he been able to kick straighter, finishing the day with 2.5. Development coaches Garry Hocking and Darren Trevena were impressed with his strong-marking and movement around the ground.

The award is judged by the Power development coaches and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

Matt Lobbe continued his good form for the Bloods with 34 hitouts while Josh Carr keeps pushing for selection with another solid performance in the Glenelg midfield. The full wrap is below.

SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Stewart (for North v Norwood @ Prospect) - Snowy’s best game for the year. Started well with Will Young playing on him before McGuiness moved onto him for the remainder of the game. Lead well and marked strongly but couldn’t quite finish his good work off with 2.5. Took 9 marks for the day including 7 inside 50. His hands were very clean and he was able to find space despite the opposition ruckman trying to fill his space. He should be considered for selection this week.

Daniel Webb (for West v Port @ Richmond) - Started the game well up forward and in the ruck, working hard both ways. Got injured just after half time and took no further part in the game.

Scott Harding (for West v Port @ Richmond) - A good display from Scott, working consistently for four quarters. Showed some good zip around the ground and was effective at stoppages. Also applied good pressure when he moved forward. Finished the day with 14 possessions, 5 marks and 2 tackles.

Matt Lobbe (for West v Port @ Richmond) - Very good game. Rucked well against quality opposition in Meiklejohn and Cloke and tried to win his own footy around the stoppages. Gave his mids first use of the ball for most of the day with 34 hitouts. Also had 11 possessions, 4 marks and 3 tackles.

Cameron Cloke (for Port v West @ Richmond) - Good game from Clokey playing forward and in the ruck. Presented well up forward and had four scoring shots. Finished the day with 12 touches, 5 marks, 20 hitouts and 2.2.

Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v Glenelg @ the Bay) - Played half back in the first half and his opponent got away from him on leads a couple of times. With the week off last week it took him a little bit of time to find his feet again in the game. Moved onto the ball in the second half and looked better with some good run and intensity.. Finished the day with 13 possessions and 3 tackles.

Josh Carr (for Glenelg v Eagles @ the Bay) - Another top display from Josh, proving again he is a standout SANFL player. Tough in the clinches winning plenty of clearances and he covered the ground well going both ways. Used the ball very well and continues to push for selection. Finished the day with 23 possessions, 7 marks, 5 tackles and 8 clearances.

Danny Meyer (for Glenelg v Eagles @ the Bay) - Up forward early and was able to get some space from his opponent, but dropped a couple of simple makrs. Kicked 2.1 but could have kicked up to six goals. Went into the midfield in the last quarter and was able to get a few clearances.

Wade Thompson (for North reserves v Norwood reserves @ Prospect) - Looked sharp and was clean with the ball early but after that he was a bit disappointing. He needs to work on his fitness and on staying in games for the full four quarters. Finished with 3 kicks, 3 handballs, 4 tackles, 9 chases and a goal.

Mitch Banner (for Eagles reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay) - Went down to the reserves with a great attitude and produced a great display with more than 30 possessions. Worked hard all day - chasing and tackling - and used the ball well by hand and foot. Was able to run and carry the ball a bit more this week and he should be pushing for league selection again this week.

Glenn Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Glenelg reserves @ the Bay) - A quiet day for the Cougar. Had a nice lead-up mark and goal and still had 4 shots for the day with a return of 2.1. Needs to keep working on his defensive pressure.
