PORT Adelaide football manager Peter Rohde says his club is no closer to reaching a deal for Shaun Burgoyne and is willing to speak to any that might be able to satisfy their requirements.

Burgoyne, who wants out of Alberton, has nominated Hawthorn as his preferred club of choice.

But speaking from Etihad Stadium on Monday morning, Rohde said Burgoyne's wishes were only one part of the trade equation and talks weren't limited to the Hawks.

"Obviously Shaun's indicated where he wants to go, but there's three parties that have to be involved in a trade – two clubs and a player," he said.

"Shaun's indicating he wants to leave the club and we've got the week to sort out where he goes.

"At the moment no three can get together, so as the week goes on we'll see how it works out.

"We haven't moved very far in the last few days but we're hoping that once the clock starts ticking in trade week that we’ll get somewhere."

Hawthorn is super-keen to recruit Burgoyne, though Essendon remains an outside chance to land him.

The Bombers distanced themselves from Burgoyne on Monday, but Andrew Lovett's desire to leave Windy Hill does give them some bargaining power.

Whether Essendon pursues Burgoyne or not, Rohde confirmed Port Adelaide was interested in the 26-year-old midfielder.

"We've spoken to Andrew Lovett … but there's a few issues to still be sorted through there," he said.

"We're far from committed to him but in the next day or two we're going to sort that out, so we know whether that can be part of the [Burgoyne] deal or not.

"Andrew certainly has indicated that he's interested in talking to us … we've got to sort through contracts and things.

"We're not exactly sure where it'll go but it might be part of it."

While not a priority, Essendon's running defender Jay Nash might be another player on the Power's radar.

"We're pretty focused on the Shaun Burgoyne thing … maybe later in the week there could be some interest there," Rohde said.

"But we want to keep focused on the Burgoyne thing first."
