Draft: What The Power Say
Recruiting manage Geoff Parker runs his rule over the club's selections in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft
In summary
The Power was the first club other than Greater Western Sydney to have a pick and had their sights firmly set on South Australian Chad Wingard. The Sturt midfielder got his wish to stay home, while Port Adelaide also used a pick to shore up its inexperienced defence with 21-year-old backman Nathan Blee. The Power have been strongly linked to former Collingwood defender Leon Davis and will have a pick in the pre-season draft after passing on their final choice in the national draft.
What the recruiter said
"It is always great if we can get a home-grown talent and Chad fits the bill. Not only that but they need the talent, and he's certainly got that so we were rapt. There's been a lot of speculation about Leon (Davis) and he will definitely be talked about. Whether or not he is the one I don't know, but we will definitely talk about him. We've got pick three and it might be earlier than that depending on what Gold Coast and GWS do. I think if we wanted him we would be a chance to get him." Port Adelaide recruiting manager Geoff Parker.
Pick 6: Chad Wingard, Sturt
Parker says: "I thought he had the talent to get picked up in the first five. When he got to six we were really happy and we've watched him play a lot over the last couple of years. I've seen Chad play since he was 16 years old so I've always had great wraps on him.
Pick 45: Brendon Ah Chee, South Fremantle
Parker says: "I thought he might still be there; we don't know how other clubs think but we were looking to stock up our midfield a bit. I first saw him last year when I was watching Ben Newton play. I remember thinking he had some talent and he had games where he did some good stuff inside."
Pick 51: Nathan Blee, East Perth
Parker says: "He's a mature-aged player who played the whole year in the seniors. Last year we were a bit exposed down back with young bodies and Matty (Primus) was keen to get another one down there who was a bit more mature. If we happen to get a few injuries, he can come in straight away."
Pick 81: Pass
Parker says: "We're going to pick one in the pre-season, there's a few being talked about but we're not sure who that is. We'll see who is available and who has fallen out tonight."
