SENIOR coach Matthew Primus has confirmed that Port Adelaide vice captain Travis Boak has been allowed to travel to Melbourne ahead of the team to spend time with family this week.
Boak, who underwent foot surgery after playing Carlton in round nine, took the opportunity to head over midway through the week to visit his Torquay-based family.
Primus confirmed that while Boak has travelled home earlier than expected, he will return to Alberton with the Power squad on Monday.
“Yeah he [Boak] took off because he’s got the injury, he saw the surgeon and is meeting us over there [Melbourne] tomorrow at the game and coming back with us Monday,” said Primus.
“He’s had some time to go back just purely because of the injury and nothing else.”
Upon return Primus expects to begin the process of discussing a contract extension with Boak during the Power’s bye week.
“We’ll do our reviews with the players, review the [Western Bulldogs] game, do our reviews with the coaches,” he said.
“We’ll sit down with him at some stage over the next month or so and then see where it’s [contract negotiation] at."
“It’ll play out, I know that there’s a date or a time that’s been set [in the media] for that kind of stuff but these things will take some time.”
“We’ll get this discussed soon, but if that’s three days, four days, two days, two weeks, whatever it is, it’ll obviously get discussed at some stage.”
Boak is expected to be fit for a return around the time of Balfours Showdown XXXIII in early July.
