Ben Guthrie looks at the deals you must do as Dream Team heads towards finals
IF YOU'RE fishing for a late season gem, you could do far worse than calling on St Kilda's Sam Fisher [DEF, $289,200].
Fisher scored 18 points just two weeks ago, but redeemed himself with 95 against the Western Bulldogs at the weekend.
Despite boasting an average of only 71 and scoring over 100 once, Fisher now has a breakeven score of just 24.
There's no doubt about his ability, so Fisher could be just the finals wildcard you are after.
Trade
Essendon on-baller Brent Stanton's [MID, $407,000] sparkling early season form has tapered substantially.
Stanton's last three scores of 85, 84 and 67 as a premium midfielder are not promising and his reported hamstring injury adds further to the uncertainty.
Carlton's Marc Murphy [MID, $400,200], fresh from his 113 points on the weekend, appears to be a prime option.
If you've got some extra cash Dane Swan [MID, $603,800] is firing on all cylinders, and is a must in any finals bound team.
Invest
Nathan Fyfe [MID/FWD, $380,400] is a DT jet of the highest order.
Fyfe - who was previously sidelined since round five - scored 89 points in his return to the big time at the weekend.
Fyfe has the added bonus of being able to play in multiple positions, which should make him a lock in your team.
The Freo star started the season at $486,600 and his bargain price is almost ludicrous when considering a player of his caliber.
New kid on the block
Carlton's Tom Bell [DEF, $90,800] is one powerful unit.
He's been a wrecking ball to opponents and a worthy DT option.
Scores of 62 and 83 are decent returns in his first two games and a price rise of around $60,000 can be expected following the Blues' meeting with the Sydney Swans this week.
That hurts
Sam Reid's [FWD, $260,500] knee injury spells trouble for the Swans and DT coaches alike.
Reid is set to miss two to three weeks - clashing with DT finals - and the Swans youngster is still in almost 17,000 teams.
If you've still got trades to burn then trade him, but if you've got a minimal stash left then it's probably best to concentrate your energies elsewhere.
The last word
The dawn is upon us.
With only one week until DT finals, correctly assembling your side can be easier said than done.
But if you do so, you could set yourself up for the ultimate glory.
