Eleven-year-old Troy Andrews from Waikerie Primary School traded his footy boots for his coloured pencils and he’s come up trumps.

Troy hasn’t been able to play footy for a little while, but this weekend his artistic skills will be on centre stage in the AFL when the Power wears a guernsey designed by him in its match against Richmond.

His guernsey was officially launched at the Adelaide Festival Centre today with Josh Mahoney, Greg Bentley and Come Out dance act Reckless Valour.

Troy found out about the competition, that has been run in conjunction with the Come Out Arts Festival, from his teacher and always thought he had a chance to win.

“(My teacher) was surprised that I won, but it was her favourite,” Troy said.

As well as liking footy, Troy likes to get the smock on when he’s at school.

“I like art and drawing…(my class) all patted me on the back and they’re excited.”

The Power versus Richmond match at 2.40pm is part of the Kids’ Day Out at the footy, with a whole host of activities planned, many around Planet Teal Zone which will be set-up near gate 4 at AAMI Stadium from 12.40pm on Saturday.

As part of his prize, Troy will run onto AAMI Stadium with the team wearing his guernsey design. Troy will also ride on Thundabolt – the Power’s giant float that comes out before the game.

“Yeah, I’ll wave to everyone in the stands,” he said.

Troy’s class will also benefit – they are the Power 22 for the day, so they’ll get to have a kick and a catch on AAMI Stadium before the game.

Troy’s whole family is really proud of what he has achieved, especially his Nanna, who was the first person he told.

Make sure you’re at AAMI Stadium this weekend to have a good look at Troy’s guernsey.

Match worn guernseys will be auctioned off on PortAdelaideFC.com.au, starting on Friday.
