BREAKOUT Port Adelaide midfielder Matthew Broadbent says he's happy to take on more responsibility when the Power takes on Geelong this weekend.

With injuries claiming the Power's entire leadership group, it will be up to players such as Broadbent to take on a larger role than they normally would.

Earlier in the week, teammate Troy Chaplin said Broadbent - who has enjoyed a career-best season so far - had increased his leadership capabilities.

And Broadbent is up for challenge: "I think I've stepped that side of my game up," he said.

"It probably comes with having a little bit more confidence and a bit more experience, but I feel more comfortable leading the group.

"Coming into my fourth year now, I've played enough games to take a bit more (responsibility) upon myself."

Broadbent said he felt "very comfortable" with playing a veteran's role on Sunday, admitting every player who had significant AFL experience had to step up to the plate.

"Last week we split the group into half, by games played, so I was in the more experienced group," he said.

"The blokes who have played enough games and have had that experience, it's going to be mainly put on them.

"If we can all step up by five per cent, then that will cover who we've lost through injury.

"This morning training was really good actually, it was really vocal and loud and everyone was really keen," he said.

"We're not going to have too many experienced heads out there, but that gives a really good opportunity to take the shackles off and go out and take the game on."
