RETIRING veteran Josh Carr has laughed off suggestions he is Port Adelaide’s lucky showdown charm, but says he’s happy to walk away from the game with his perfect record against the Crows intact.

Carr, who has played in 10 showdowns, has never been part of a losing Power side against Adelaide, despite the overall standings between the bitter rivals being so close (16-13 Port Adelaide’s way).

Carr returned to WA to play with brother Matthew at Fremantle between 2005-08 - a period in which Port Adelaide recorded just two wins from nine starts against the Crows - but has played in three showdown victories since being drafted back to Alberton in 2009.

So, it was fitting that the 30-year-old should end his 207-game career with one last win over the Crows at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

“I’m pretty happy to go out this way,” Carr said after the game.

“I don’t know how it [the perfect record against Adelaide] has happened. Sometimes I’ve been injured when we’ve lost and [in the round 17 loss] last year I didn’t make the team.

“It’s just been luck, but I’m happy with the record and I’m retiring for sure now, so I can keep it intact.”

The Power’s upset 19-point win over Adelaide brought an end to the club’s record nine-game losing streak and gave Matthew Primus his first win as senior coach.

Carr said Primus’ message was starting to get through to the players, after two weeks at the helm.

“It’s been pretty hard for the club. We’ve been through a change in coaches and to get the first win for Matty was a really good effort from the boys,” Carr said.

“Matty has been driving the non-negotiables at the club. He’s demanded that 22 players play as a team. It’s not about any stars and that’s been his main message.

“He’s got his non-negotiables and if you don’t do them you won’t play.”

Carr will now turn his attention to a career in the stock market and said he would remain in Adelaide, rather than relocating back to Perth.

“It was a little bit sad after the game, but I’m looking forward to the next challenge in my life. I can’t wait to get back down here, support the boys and be a part of the club for the rest of my life.”
