FIRST awarded in 2006 to highlight the best year by an up and coming player, Hamish Hartlett has joined some illustrious company as a deserving winner of the Gavin Wanganeen Medal at the 2011 Best & Fairest evening.
The Gavin Wanganeen Medal has seen some of the stars of the Port Adelaide Football Club acknowledged for the promise that they exhibit for the future, with Hartlett recognised alongside such as previous winners Jackson Trengove, Travis Boak, Alipate Carlile, Justin Westhoff and Danyle Pearce.
The Power's highest-ever draft pick (No.4 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft), Hartlett had - prior to this year - been limited to 15 appearances in his first two years at Alberton because of injury.
In 2011, the 21 year old was able to string a run of 16 games together, from Round 3 against Geelong at Skilled Stadium to Round 20 against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium, before having a shoulder operation to ensure he was ready to being preseason training in November for the 2012 season.
The classy ball winner displayed poise in the midfield and across half-back, averaging 21 possessions and accumulating a career high 32 possessions against the Saints in Round 16.
