An AFL investigation is continuing into the incident, which is understood to have come off the back of a scuffle between the pair in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game at Etihad Stadium.
"He was really upset, I suppose we got to see during the game. He was pretty angry during the game and after the game he was angry," Primus told Fox Footy Monday night.
"It does take courage, you don’t do these things lightly, and Daniel certainly felt pretty aggrieved by it all.
"We fully support him, and I applaud him for standing up for what he believed in."

Primus said Pearce thought the jibe went well outside the boundaries of what you expect on the footy field.
"He's happy to get tagged every week and get smacked around in that regard but what had happened on the weekend was certainly unacceptable from our footy club's point of view and obviously Danyle's."
The AFL Match Review Panel did look at the contact between the pair.
"We looked at it from a melee and a wrestling perspective, we decided it didn’t go on for long enough and there wasn’t enough vigor in the actual contact for it to come under our jurisdiction at this stage and obviously we're awaiting the investigative report," MRP chairman Mark Fraser told The Verdict on AFL.com.au.
