Port Adelaide's football development team were impressed by a number of performances in the SANFL last weekend ahead of a critical selection period for the Power.
Five replacements are guaranteed for the Power this week with four injuries and one suspension opening up places for talented SANFL players to come back into, or debut, for the AFL side.
SANFL Player of the Week
Daniel Stewart (for Roosters v Double Blues)
12 kicks, 9 marks, 6 hitouts, 4 inside 50s, 4.2
Snowy had a good game finishing with 4.2. Played forward and a bit in the ruck taking some nice marks leading up well. It’s pleasing to see him clunk some of those marks and compete well in the ruck. This caps off a good period for Daniel with a couple of good performances in the Roosters.

Aaron Young (for Roosters v Double Blues)
10 kicks, 5 handballs, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 2 clerances, 1 goal
Played half forward and in the midfield. Had 9 touches in the final quarter and was pretty quiet up until that point. He got caught holding the ball a couple of times when he was trying to take blokes on, but as long as he’s trying to attack we’re ok with that. He played a high percentage of game time so we would have liked to see him get a little bit more of the ball, especially at stoppages.
Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Double Blues)
4 kicks, 4 handballs, 2 marks, 2 rebound 50s
He was quite good again down back. Only had 8 possessions but rotated between a variety of players and tried to run off and create for them. He used the ball pretty well and it was quite a pleasing display.
Cam Hitchcock (for Tigers v Bulldogs)
Unfortunately for Cam, he had a re-occurrence of his hamstring injury and came off in the first five minutes of the game.

Matt Lobbe (for Bloods v Redlegs)
6 kicks, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 33 hit outs, 4 clearances, 3 inside 50s
Lobbes was very good, his hunting of the footy, his intensity in and around stoppages and his ruck work have all stood out over the last three or four weeks. He’s really coming on and has some match fitness under him now. He’s up and about and did pretty well in an unfortunate game for Westies where Norwood ended up wining by a point.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Redlegs)
4 kicks, 3 marks, 18 hit outs, 3 tackles, 2 clearances, 1 inside 50
Webby started really well and was really aggressive in the start of the game. When West were on top he was up and about but slowly went out of the game as it went on. The conditions didn’t really suit his game style (with it getting wetter as the day went on) but we thought he did a good job.
Ben Newton (for Bloods v Redlegs)
Ben Newton missed the game with a corked thigh.
David Rodan (for Redlegs v Bloods)
9 kicks, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 1 goal
Kicked the winning goal after the siren which is every kid’s dream growing up. He did well and it was a real slog throughout the day, especially through the second half, but for D-Rod to come through and kick that goal at the end is a real positive for him and a lot of player panic in that situation. He was very composed and got it from what he tells us was 65 metres, but I’m pretty sure it was more like 30!
Tom Jonas (for Redlegs v Bloods)
7 kicks, 4 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s
Tommy was very solid but didn’t see a lot of the footy playing on ball and switching to the backlines for a little bit. He’d be a little bit unhappy with how much footy he had - but he’s solid, a big bodied midfielder - and was definitely part of Norwood getting involved with getting Norwood back into the game.
Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Bloods)
2 kicks, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 2 inside 50s
A quiet one for Simon - he just couldn’t get himself into it - with a couple of opportunities that he didn’t take, be it grabbing the ball cleanly or finding the opportunities in front of goal so he’ll be looking forward to next week’s game to fix that, I can tell you!
Reserves Brendon Ah Chee (for Port Adelaide v Eagles)
10 kicks, 9 handballs, 7 marks, 2 clearances, 1 goal
After a couple of disappointing performances, this was a much-improved performance from Brendon. He didn’t play on ball as much, pushing to the wing and half forward but we got to see some of his pace and he definitely lifted his work rate. Was very clean with the ball, evaded a few tackles and kicked a goal. A pleasing performance. Nick Salter (for Eagles v Port Adelaide)
10 kicks, 3 marks, 3 clearances, 3 rebound 50s, 2 goals
It was Salts first game back after a length spell on the sideline because of foot surgery. He only played about 50% game time - which was always the plan - and mixed his time between the forward line and on the ball. Kicked a couple of goals and had a few touches. He looked clean with the ball but obviously he just has to continue working on the aerobic side of his game, which will come with match practice.
Jarrad Irons (for Eagles v Port Adelaide)
11 kicks, 7 handballs, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 5 inside 50s
Jarrad continues to play well in patches but can’t seem to string that together for a full game. Played on ball, half forward and a bit on the wing. The big challenge for Jarrad is to sustain his workrate for the entire game.
Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues v Roosters)
4 kicks, 2 handballs, 3 marks, 8 hitouts
Competed quite well this week in the ruck and jumped in well at the centre bounce. Got to a few marking contests and showed some good aggression but needs to have more of a four quarter performance.
Jasper Pittard (for Double Blues v Roosters)
6 kicks, 7 handballs, 2 clearances, 3 rebound 50s
Got through the game ok playing about 75% of the game. First half was pretty good playing on a half back flank but still just needs to lift his work rate. That’ll come with more game time though as he builds confidence in his hamstring. We’re looking for him to run off a bit more and link up through the midfield and hopefully we’ll see that over the next couple of weeks. The main thing is that he got through unscathed.
