PORT ADELAIDE caretaker coach Matthew Primus says he isn’t about to drastically alter the Power’s game plan, and is simply looking for an intense effort from his players over the final seven rounds.

Primus, who took over from former senior coach Mark Williams last weekend, says there won’t be too many changes to the way his side plays, but he expects a much more concentrated effort in the run home.

“We’ll be trying to play a similar brand, but I just want to see intensity and attack on the ball,” he said on Friday evening ahead of the Power’s clash with the Western Bulldogs in Darwin.

“Our contested footy has dropped away over the past few weeks, and we need to bring that back up.

“The Bulldogs are pretty good in that regard, so hopefully we’ll see that kind of stuff from us over the next seven weeks.”

Primus made four changes - two of which were forced - to the side this week with Alipate Carlile (back), Travis Boak (illness), Josh Carr and Daniel Stewart leaving the side.

The omissions made way for Jason Davenport, Jay Nash, Jay Schulz and Scott Harding, with veteran defender Chad Cornes overlooked and sent to play his first game in the SANFL since 1999.

Primus believes the 30-year-old is capable of recapturing his best form and breaking back into the side as well as proving his worth for next season.

“He’s played some good footy this year and that’s what we’re looking to get; that consistency he had earlier in the year,” he said.

“I’m confident he can, and he’s confident in his own ability too.

“We just want him to get back into some good form. His form hadn’t been great playing with us, but if he can go back to Glenelg and show some good form [down back] in the next couple of weeks, we can get him back into the team.

“He understands that and he’s got enough pride that I’m sure his performances will be pretty good.”

Primus also resisted calls to omit Daniel Motlop after some inconsistent performances and a few on-field acts of petulance. The coach believes Motlop could benefit from a game in front of his home crowd.

“'Mots' has had a few issues to deal with, but we’ve been really happy with what he’s been able to do over the past few weeks,” he said.

“He’s been pretty disciplined for us and as long as he stays disciplined on the field, he’s training well, we think his form isn’t far around the corner.

“I know he does enjoy playing up here in front of his family and friends.”

Primus said the team was relishing the chance to get out of Adelaide after the past week, but admitted he was looking forward to coaching at AAMI Stadium for the first time next Sunday.

A fit-looking Warren Tredrea is with the team and ran laps during their spirited hour-long training session at TIO Stadium on Friday night.
