THE Port Adelaide Football Club has commenced its senior coach selection process, which is expected to be concluded by AFL Grand Final week.

The club’s Board has appointed a panel of six to oversee the first stages of the search for the person who will lead the Power’s next on-field era.

The panel - which includes two senior club executives, two Port Adelaide board members and two external appointees - will be chaired by Chief Executive Mark Haysman.

“We approach the selection process with an open mind but with the single-minded goal of finding the best possible coach for the next era of the Port Adelaide Football Club,” Haysman says.

“That person will have an extraordinary opportunity to take and shape what we believe is an exciting list of talented young players.

“The selection panel we have established provides a range of football expertise as well as business experience, and the process will be demanding and thorough. Candidates will go through a series of assessment exercises and interview processes as that process unfolds.

“We expect the process will be completed by Grand Final week, giving the new coach the opportunity to be involved in the draft camp and trade week, although we are prepared to be flexible as required to secure the best possible coach.

“Importantly, we will not be providing a running commentary on the detail of various stages, or on the identity or merits of any candidates.”

The panel is:
- Mark Haysman (Chair) - Port Adelaide FC Chief Executive
- Peter Rohde - Port Adelaide FC Football Operations Manager
- Bruce Abernethy - Port Adelaide FC Board Member. Seven-time Port Adelaide premiership player, 190 PAFC games (SANFL); 112 AFL games Collingwood/North Melbourne/Adelaide

- David Pittman - Dual Adelaide FC premiership player (1997-98; 131 AFL games), former Power assistant coach (including 2004 premiership) and current AFL Tribunal member
