PORT Adelaide defender Hamish Hartlett has called on the parochial Power supporter base to continue to stick with the club as it rebuilds.

Play With Pride: Primus

Hartlett, along with forward Jay Schulz and fellow defender Jackson Trengove, was among the shining lights for the Power in their narrow loss to the Brisbane Lions.

Played as a loose man in defence, he had 24 touches and a game-high 10 marks.

However, Port Adelaide's highest ever NAB AFL Draft pick (taken at number four in 2008) was much happier talking up his fellow defenders.

"I was playing spare back in defence so I was well supported by the other defenders, it made my life a little bit easier," he said.

"I was pretty impressed with Jackson's efforts on Jonathan Brown.

"I suppose you want to learn and improve from each game, we almost shot ourselves in the foot, we played good footy for three quarters but didn't absorb the pressure Brisbane produced and unfortunately they kicked a few goals late.

"It is just getting some game time into the younger guys, like Cameron O'Shea, Ben Jacobs and Simon Phillips, it is going to be really vital for us."

The Power face St Kilda at AAMI Stadium this weekend and Hartlett said the team was keen to repay the faith fans had shown in the club in 2011.

"St Kilda at home is another tough challenge but we owe it to our fans to get one at home," he said.

"We have got a lot of loyal fans that come out week after week and we love that as players, there is nothing better than getting a good crowd at each home game.

"They are excited to see these younger players coming through and we can certainly repay the faith by getting a win this week."

Schulz, who missed part of this season with a knee injury, kicked seven goals for the Power in the loss and Hartlett was able to admire the performance from the other end of the field.

"He is one guy who, week in, week out, we can rely on to kick goals, he has been really good since coming back from his knee," Hartlett said.
