THERE were a number of standout performances in the SANFL last weekend, with Andrew Moore putting his best effort yet for the Roosters, in just his second League game.
Development Manager Daniel Healy saw the Eagles claim their first win for the year over South Adelaide at Noarlunga - with Jarrad Redden and Cameron O’Shea building their claims for Power selection with a number of key improvements.

Matthew Nicks saw a great response from Danyle Pearce for the Double Blues against the Roosters, as well as Matt Thomas’ influential game amidst a highly talented Redlegs side.
Tyson Edwards saw his old side in West Adelaide prevail over Port Adelaide’s SANFL squad with both Brett Ebert and Daniel Webb contributing across the ground.
SANFL Player of the Week
21 disposals, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 2 clerances, 1 inside 50, 1 rebound 50
Moorey has really taken his game to a new level and lifted his intensity, as fans may have seen at his games in the last few weeks. We’re really impressed with his game. He played half forward and then on ball and he’s really worked on his game and is getting plenty of touches. He finished with 22 touches or so and that’s a really good result, particularly after just a few weeks in the League side!
League Players
Brett Ebert (for Port Adelaide v Bloods)
17 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 7 clearances, 4 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50, 1 goal
Ebo had a good start to the game, a really good first quarter with 7 possessions and ending up with 17 for the match. He had his shots on goal which is important for playing him into position. Westies dominated the game for periods and if he’d kicked 3 goals instead of 3 points it would’ve been another top game from him. Brett ran out the last quarter in the midfield and got 6 possessions out of that performance.
Mitch Banner (for Port Adelaide v Bloods)
12 disposals, 5 marks, 2 tackles, 1 clearance, 1 inside 50, 2 rebound 50s
Had his first game back from a knee injury. It wasn’t one of his better games - had only 12 possessions and a couple of tackles, but he finished the game better than he started which is encouraging.
Daniel Webb (for Bloods v Port Adelaide)
9 disposals, 5 marks, 7 tackles, 23 hit outs, 1 clearance, 2 inside 50s
Webby had a really good game - only had 9 possessions - but spent time in the ruck and up forward and had 23 hit outs (most of them to advantage). Like Ebo, he had three shots and goal and only returned three behinds. He also had seven tackles which is great - he’s putting pressure on for a spot.
Danyle Pearce (for Double Blues v Roosters)
28 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles, 2 clearances, 4 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50
Danyle went back to Sturt and it was great to see him really put his head down and get into the game. He played down back early and probably struggled a little bit, but then was pushed onto a wing and really had a major influence on the game for the third and fourth quarters. Had about 20 possessions, plenty of inside 50s and multiple goal assists. We were very impressed, particularly by his turnover pressure.
Nathan Blee (for Roosters v Double Blues)
12 disposals, 3 marks, 1 cleranace, 1 rebound 50
Played down back and had a few key match ups including Josh Jenkins from the Crows. Nathan held his own, got beaten once or twice but he continues to improve with some really good body work one-on-one playing out of full back.
Jarrad Redden (for Eagles v Panthers)
8 disposals, 3 marks, 17 hit outs, 4 clearances
Reddo played ruck and forward for the Eagles. It was really positive to see him back after two weeks off - he looked really fresh. The Eagles were really happy with him and can see massive improvements in him from where he was last year in terms of his pressure, strength and ability to hunt the ball on the ground. He finished with 8 possessions and 17 hit outs.
Cameron O’Shea (for Panthers v Eagles)
15 disposals, 4 marks, 3 tackles, 1 inside 50
Cam played down back and on a wing. It was a bit of a mixed bag performance from him. His good stuff was very good - his rebounding, running and use of the ball. On the other hand he got caught out and beaten on a lead a couple of times. He finished with 15 possessions, we just need Cam to keep working on his consistency in a few areas of his game - but overall it was a positive performance.
Matt Thomas (for Redlegs v Tigers)
22 disposals, 4 marks, 4 tackles, 9 clearances.
Matty ended up with 22 possessions, spending most of the game on the ball - plenty of hard, hard in-and-under hard ball gets, to influence the game in a good win for the Legs.
Simon Phillips (for Redlegs v Tigers)
4 disposals, 1 mark, 2 inside 50s
Flip played up forward and had a good opportunity to take mark of the year (unfortunately spilled it). It probably set the scene for the rest of his night, he was a little bit quiet, not a lot of football, but plenty of hard work. It’s pleasing to see that he could still put in that hard work but a bit disappointed for him that he couldn’t find the rest of the ball.
Steven Salopek (for Tigers v Redlegs)
12 disposals, 3 marks, 2 tackles, 4 clearances, 2 inside 50s
Sal played on-ball changing half-forward, spent a lot of time in and around the footy and got his head over the ball throughout. He actually played on Matt Thomas for some of the game and went head-to-head in a couple of contests. He finished with 10 possessions in a quiet game by his standards, although that said the Tigers were beaten most of the game.
Reserves players
Brendon Ah Chee (for Port Adelaide reserves v Bloods)
14 disposals, 1 mark, 6 tackles, 4 clearances
Had a really good first half, but dropped away a bit in the second. His intensity around stoppages and his energy was really good in that first half. He’s working on his spread from stoppages.
Ben Newton (for Bloods reserves v Port Adelaide)
25 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, 2 clearances, 2 inside 50s, 1 rebound 50
Seems to be getting better each week with 25 possessions against the Magpies - 13 of which were in the last quarter. He ran out the game the best way I’ve seen since being here and his spread away from stoppages was much better. Another solid game from Benny and hopefully in a few weeks he won’t be too far away from a League spot.
Matt Lobbe (for Bloods reserves v Port Adelaide)
12 disposals, 2 marks, 3 tackles, 27 hitouts, 1 clearances, 3 inside 50s
Matt played in the ruck and up forward for the reserves - he’s been jumping really well all around the ground and he’s definitely pushing for a League spot. A really good game from him, he dominated the hit outs, jumping over his opponents and hopefully they’ll push him into the senior team this week.
Jarrad Irons (for Eagles reserves v Panthers)
10 disposals, 3 marks, 4 clearances, 2 inside 50s
Jarrad had his first game back after a calf strain. A pretty quiet night, he got through the game fine and finished with 10 possessions, laid 3 tackles and we’ll be looking for Jarrad to build on that next week, particularly with his defensive pressure, but it was pleasing to see him get through his first game back.
Danny Butcher (for Roosters reserves v Double Blues)
13 disposals, 3 marks, 3 clearances
This was probably Danny’s first full hit out since joining the club. He got a little bit of time on the ball and we’re probably looking for him to get a little more as that’s where his strength is. We got quite a few things to come out of his first game which we’ll work on him - that’s a real positive.
Mitch Curnow (for Double Blues reserves v Roosters)
7 disposals, 1 mark, 13 hit outs, 1 clearance
Mitch played ruck changing forward and bench. We’ve worked on a number of areas with him during the week - he’s improved on one of those but still a bit more to come from our development of him so we’ll continue to press ahead with that and monitor his progress during the middle third of the year.
