The results are in. Power Goes Movies has been declared an overwhelming success – both financially for the Port Adelaide Football Club and for the entertainment it provided for more than 1,100 guests.

The club’s marquee event of the year was held on Friday night at the Adelaide Convention Centre. It was the annual gala auction, themed ‘Power Goes Movies’ and turned out to be a stunning night.

With a red carpet entrance, movie look-alikes, the wonderful Rachel Beck and Peter Cousens performing all the favourite movie themes and even ‘choc tops’ for dessert, the Oscars had nothing on this event!

Add to that, surprise band Sneaky Sound System, who had the place pumping and the dance floor packed, as well as plenty of fabulous food, wine and spirited bidding.

One very lucky lady – Julie Dolphin from Pasadena – drove away with a SsangYong Actyon by entering the raffle on the night. Her screams of delight were heard right around the huge venue.

The club auctioned more than 300 auction items on the night, including a brand new kitchen (including installation and removing old kitchen), which went for more than $24,000. Other highlights included a special piece of Trigaty Jewellery which raised more than $11,000 and two tickets to the Brownlow Medal including walking into the event with Mark Williams (who threw that extra privilege in while the auction was going when he realised wife Pauline wouldn’t be able to be by his side this year) which raised $10,000.

The auction items and the raffle (that saw Julie win her brand new Ssangyong) together raised $350,000 for the club. The club proudly reports that that figure exceeded all expectations.

As planning begins for the 2008 Power Goes event, the Port Adelaide Football Club thanks all those people who came along and made it such a great night.
