PORT ADELAIDE coach Mark Williams is always looking for newways to challenge his playing group, but he'll take that strategy to newextremes on Friday.
A group of around 15 Port Adelaide players will probably bewell and truly out of their depth when they face up to a great white shark orthree.
Dom Cassisi, one of the intrepid explorers, expects the openwater off Port Lincoln to be a little more treacherous than that of his pastSCUBA destinations.
“I’ve been out on the Great Barrier Reef a few times, butobviously we’ll be in a cage on Friday, so hopefully the sharks won’t be ableto get too close to us,” Cassisi said.
“I’m really looking forward to it and a fair few of the guysare pretty excited about it. I think most of the guys put their hand up to doit, but they had to cut the numbers back, so I think there will be 15, maybe18, blokes who will head out.”
Friday morning’s adventure will cap off the Power’sthree-day training camp in Port Lincoln.
The players will take part in a variety of team-orientated activities, which include a sandcastle building contest and what’s likely to be an overlycompetitive spot of fishing.
Last year the Power endured a grueling boot camp on KangarooIsland and some surprise activities planned this week will be far fromleisurely.
“Camps like these are very important. You always get a bitof team bonding out of them and we have a fair few new guys in the group again,so we’ll get to know them better,” Cassisi said.
“We’ll do some training there as well - I think we have apretty solid session there on Wednesday and then on Friday we’re allowed to doa little bit of fishing or some shark diving.”
“I think the camps really help all the young guys that comeinto the club settle in and start to feel more comfortable among everyone. Atthe moment they rock up to training, do the session and head home.”
“It just allows everyone to bond together for three daysstraight. We learn a bit about each other and I think we’ll do some leadershipstuff there as well. It’ll be a good mixture of things.”
