WESTERN BULLDOGS Jack Macrae has retained his spot at the top of the AFL fantasy leaderboard with another strong performance scoring above 100 points, but Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell has closed to within 41 points of him.

23-year-old Macrae scored 107 fantasy points, below his season average of 127.4 as his side went down to Melbourne by 49 points on Saturday.

He had 31 disposals, three marks and 5 tackles but his value actually dropped by $16,000.

He is still the most expensive player in the competition but at $875,000 and given how prolific his fantasy scoring has been he might be worth finding space in the budget for.

Mitchell got a league-high 145 points with his 28 touches, eight marks, eight tackles and two goals to narrow the gap on Macrae.

No Port Adelaide player managed to pass 100 fantasy points in the loss to the Hawks with Justin Westhoff the highest scorer with 96.

That total saw him become the first Power player to pass 1000 fantasy points for the season and remain the club’s highest overall scorer.

Justin Westhoff (mid/fwd - $659,000)

The ever-reliable Westhoff had 96 AFL fantasy points for his efforts on Saturday – just below his 100.6-point average this season.

He is now the only Port Adelaide player averaging 100 points or more in 2018.

Westhoff had 20 disposals, seven marks, three hit-outs, two tackles and a goal.

His popularity is continuing to rise amongst AFL fantasy coaches with 14,798 including him in their team – more than 1000 more than last week.

Darcy Byrne-Jones (def - $568,000)

Averaging 80.1 points per round, Byrne-Jones managed 73 on a day where only six Port Adelaide players beat their average score, and most by not much.

In his last six games Byrne-Jones has averaged 92.5 points, which is pretty useful for a defender.

Against the Hawks in Launceston he had 18 disposals, five marks and three tackles, and his performance saw his value increase by $12,000.

Byrne-Jones was one of just three players to see their value rise after the weekend.

The 22-year-old has been added to 855 AFL fantasy teams since last game, a big improvement on the 1067 teams he was in.

Sam Powell-Pepper (mid - $517,000)

Powell-Pepper was one of Port Adelaide’s three players to see their value increase after the loss to Hawthorn.

The $9,000 gain may seem minor but it continues an upwards trajectory for the 20-year-old.

Across his career Powell-Pepper has averaged 72.8 AFL fantasy points and he had 72 on Saturday after racking up 21 disposals, four marks and four tackles.

Since missing four weeks through suspension, the midfield bull has averaged 89.3 points and AFL fantasy coaches are realising his potential with his name now appearing in 2212 teams, up from 1882 last game.

Paddy Ryder (ruck - $520,000)

Ryder is the All-Australian ruckman from 2017 but injury saw him miss five matches and barely register in AFL fantasy in Round 1.

Since then he has steadily shown signs that he is almost back to his best, and on Saturday he recorded season-highs for kicks, handballs, disposals and marks.

Ryder had 13 touches, four marks and 35 hit-outs in Launceston, seeing him score 80 fantasy points – well up on his season average of 68.6 and better than his career average of 74.8.

In his last three games, Ryder is averaging 81.7 AFL fantasy points.

Because of his early-season absences, the big man’s value has dropped by $126,000 since the start of the season and at just over $500,000 he represents good value if he can continue his improvement.
