Ahead of his milestone 200th AFL match, we at portadelaidefc.com.au have crunched the numbers behind Tom Rockliff’s AFL journey.
Here are some of the key numbers to share with your mates while you are watching Port Adelaide take on Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.
59 – Rockliff booted 59 goals for the Murray Bushrangers in his draft year to finish as the leading goalkicker in the TAC Cup.
5 – Despite winning the best and fairest for the Murray Bushrangers, and his goalkicking feats, Rockliff was overlooked at the AFL National Draft, and not selected until the fifth pick of the pre-season draft in 2009 by the Brisbane Lions.
2009 – Rockliff debuted for Brisbane against Collingwood in Round 18, 2009. The Lions started well and led by 14 points at half time before going down by 40 points. Rockliff had five disposals and a tackle. His second game was actually in a win against Port Adelaide in Round 2, 2010 when he had 23 disposals and a goal.
77 – the number of Brownlow votes Rockliff has received in his 199 career games. His best was 21 in the 2013 season, which saw him finish in a tie for fifth.
154 – The number of games Rockliff played at Brisbane before crossing to Port Adelaide at the end of 2017. He won just 46 of those games and has a better winning percentage at Port of 60 per-cent, having won 27 of 45 games.
5.7 – Rockliff averages 5.7 tackles per game, ranking him as elite amongst other midfielders across the competition. He had a career-high 17 against Melbourne in 2015 and is averaging 6.4 tackles per game in 2020 despite the reduced game time. In his last four games alone, he has averaged nine tackles.
25.8 – He is known as the “pig” for a reason in Fantasy football. Rockliff averages an incredible 25.8 disposals per game across his career, ranking him as elite across the competition.
11,792– Rockliff is the 11,792nd player to appear in the VFL/AFL and the 172nd to appear for Port Adelaide in the AFL.
98 – the number of goals Rockliff has managed in his career. His best return in a season was 18 in 22 games in 2012. He has booted three goals in a game on six occasions, including in back to back games against Hawthorn and Gold Coast while playing for Brisbane in 2014.
48 – Rockliff’s record disposal tally in a single game. He recorded this against Carlton in Round 11, 2016 and it included 27 handballs. Remarkably, Rockliff once produced 32 handballs in a game against Hawthorn in 2015 and he has also had 31 kicks in a single game against Gold Coast in 2014. His best disposal tally in a Port jumper came in Round 1, 2019 against Melbourne when he racked up 44 disposals, although he did break a SANFL record by having 57 possessions against North Adelaide in 2019 while lining up for the Magpies.
9 – the number of times Rockliff has played Hawthorn. Also, the number of times Rockliff has lost to Hawthorn. It means he is finally due for a win!
2 – the number of milestone matches Rockliff has won so far. His 50th game was a s two-point win over West Coast in 2012, his 100th was a 67-point win over Collingwood in 2015 but his 150th was a 68-point loss to the Eagles. That means on aggregate scores, he is one-point up!
