On what the problems are…

There’s a couple of issues that are just not right for us. Our contest inside is ineffective at the moment, under real pressure it’s breaking down. We understand that. And then our ability to use the ball with that same pressure is causing some great concern. We know what we are, we just need to keep working to turn it around.

On inconsistency…

It’s a dangerous space to be – an inconsistent footy club.

Does game style stack up? Well, when you deliver the first quarter that we delivered, we know it stacks up. But then, to compete when the contest gets lifted, we haven’t been able to go with the lift. We’ve been OK at a lower level, but when the lift comes … we haven’t been able to match that.

On team appraisals…

If you asked them, collectively, they’d be honest enough to say there wasn’t many tonight that, over four quarters, would give themselves the tick.

Some players are clearly out of form. Sometimes it takes time to get back into form.  I think you don’t recover in one quarter or one game, or one week. You go back to trying to build your confidence… I think there’s a fair bit of confidence that comes out when you lose your belief in what you can do.

On planning forward…

There’s value in reassessing lots of things that we’re doing at the moment. All parts of the game need a real clear look at, which we’ve been doing on a week-to-week basis. It’s not just one player… it’s a combination of lots of things: we’ve got to look at the personnel, we’ve got to look at the method, and we’ve got to look at the results we’re getting from that.
