PORT ADELAIDE forward Steven Motlop has been nominated for the 2020 Coates Hire AFL Goal of the Year for his classy check-side kick in the third quarter of Monday night’s win over Collingwood.
Motlop played the role of rover perfectly as he ran at speed onto a ball which bounced off the hands of teammate Peter Ladhams.
Taking the ball cleanly, he composed himself and running away from goal he used the outside of his right boot to boot the ball high into the air and bend it back perfectly for a trademark goal.
It was a perfect example of Motlop’s instinct around goal, and the joy in his celebration showed how much he enjoyed it.
Motlop has previously been a nominee for Mark of the Year for his spectacular high grab against Adelaide in Round 2.
If he wins this week’s vote, he would join teammates Connor Rozee, Robbie Gray and Ladhams as weekly winners in the running for the overall gong.
The other Round 18 nominees for Goal of the Year are Hawthorn’s Paul Puopolo and Collingwood’s Adam Treloar.
