Port Adelaide senior assistant Michael Voss says the club continue to focus its preparations on playing the Eagles in Western Australia despite Perth's recent lockdown.

PORT ADELAIDE is preparing for its pre-season game against West Coast in Perth to go ahead, despite the closure of state borders and the current lockdown in Western Australia.

The AFL announced a revised fixture for the AAMI Community Series on Sunday, with Port to travel to Perth to face the Eagles on Sunday 7 March.

Hours later the W.A. Government announced a five-day lockdown for Perth and other parts of the state after a hotel quarantine security guard tested positive to COVID-19.

The restrictions mean players from the two W.A. AFL clubs can only train in pairs for an hour per day.

Port Adelaide senior assistant coach Michael Voss says it is business as usual at Alberton unless the club is told otherwise.

“We’re guided by the AFL,” he explained during a press conference on Monday.

“When we hear from them around what their protocols will be or what happens, we’ll wait and see, otherwise we go forward as is.”

With about five weeks until the AAMI Community Series game against West Coast, Voss said the club would continue to prepare for the game, but take lessons from 2020 as to how to deal with any late change.

“In some ways, this year’s going to be a little bit different but that being able to stay flexible and adaptable and being able to move – there’s a high chance we’re going to experience something quite similar.

“But I think what we’ve done really well as a group is that we’ve embraced all of that and seen it as a real challenge to work through and an opportunity to build our resilience as a group.

“If it needs changing, we’ll deal with it but we’re planning as it is right now.”
