NICK Salter’s seven-goal haul against the Magpies at Woodville has won him the SANFL Player of the Week Award for Round 2.

Salter was almost unstoppable up forward, kicking goals on the lead-up, off the ground and from some great defensive pressure. It was an impressive start to the SANFL season for the strong-marking forward, who was forced to sit out last week as the Eagles had the bye.

The award is judged by Power development coaches Garry Hocking and Darren Trevena and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

It was a weekend of SANFL that saw some important returns for the Power, with David Rodan and Hamish Hartlett getting through unscathed. Read on to find out how the development coaches assessed their games.

SANFL Player of the Week
Nick Salter (for Eagles v Port @ Woodville) - Nick had a day out against the Magpies, booting 7.2 to go with his 18 possessions and 5 marks. A number of his goals came from some good forward pressure and good tackling from Salts, which was really impressive. He took a few good lead-up marks and did some nice body work on his opponent in the marking contest. A great game.

Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v Port @ Woodville) - Broady got better as the game progressed, winning a few good clearances and going inside 50 to Salter with a few nice kicks. Finished with 24 touches and 4 marks.

Cameron Cloke (for Port v Eagles @ Woodville) - Clokey’s best game for the year. He jumped in well in the ruck and got a few good hitouts to advantage. Jeremy Clayton had an absolute party roving Cam’s taps! He rucked for most of the day but also looked dangerous when he pushed forward, booting 2.2. Finished the game with 16 possessions and 19 hitouts.

David Rodan (for Norwood v South @ the Parade) - The return of D-Rod was great to see at the Parade on Thursday night. It was a solid hitout, showing some good agility and pace at times. Playing on the ball and up forward, he finished with 15 possessions, 3 tackles and 3 clearances. Ended up playing a little bit more than planned because of Norwood’s injuries but got through the game all ok. Will be looking to build on that this week.

Danny Meyer (for Glenelg v West @ Richmond) - Two top quality games from Danny to start 2010. He used the ball well again, running hard to get his touches. Was good defensively as well, tackling and spoiling and taking a couple of courageous marks running back with the flight of the ball. Finished with 22 touches and 4 marks as well as another mark of the year contender.

Josh Carr (for Glenelg v West @ Richmond) - Josh’s best game for the year and he looks to have overcome the niggling injuries he had to start the year. Won some good hard clearances against the flow of the game and looked dangerous when he moved forward. Finished with 24 touches and 7 marks in a good all round game.

Matt Lobbe (for West v Glenelg @ Richmond) - Rucked for a majority of the day but also spent some time up forward. Got his hands to the ball in the ruck and he just needs to keep working on his efforts around the ground. Really good to see him giving West’s midfield first use of the ball.

Michael Pettigrew (for West v Glenelg @ Richmond) - Another good game playing mainly up forward. He booted four goals and contested well in the packs, bringing the ball to ground. His body is holding up well and he’ll be looking to continue his good form.

Scott Harding (for West v Glenelg @ Richmond) - A tough day at the office for Scotty. He tried hard all day but didn’t have much of an influence on the game. He’ll be better this week with some more understanding of West’s game plan and knowing a few more of his teammates.

Andrew Moore (for North v Sturt @ Prospect) - Went back with a fantastic attitude and performed really well. He had 17 possessions and looked accomplished at SANFL level. Used the ball well, ran well and was good physically, especially defensively. A solid day.

Daniel Stewart (for North v Sturt @ Prospect) - Stewie presented well and crashed the packs hard, creating a spillage for North’s smaller men to feast on. Played a bit in the ruck and competed well. Booted 2.2, had 11 possessions and 5 marks and will be pushing for selection this week.

Hamish Hartlett (for West reserves v Glenelg reserves @ Richmond) - Played the second half and had 10 possessions and 4 tackles as well as a goal. Most importantly, he got through unscathed and will hopefully progress to the league.

Daniel Webb (for West reserves v Glenelg reserves @ Richmond) - Played mainly up forward taking 6 marks and kicking 2 goals. He worked hard to make good position and just needs to hold on to a few more contested marks. He’ll be pushing for league selection this week.

Glenn Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Port reserves @ Woodville) - A good day for the Cougar, booting 6.2. He was excellent on the lead-up and also took two hangers, something we saw from him early last year when he was in some good form. Applied good forward defensive pressure and used his body well. Impressive game.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v Port reserves @ Woodville) - Good in the ruck, working hard for four quarters. Also pushed forward at times and kicked a goal. Moved well around the ground to get to ruck contests and had 33 hitouts.

Jasper Pittard (for Sturt reserves v North reserves @ Prospect) - Slowly worked his way into the game. He’s still learning to understand the SANFL style and getting used to the bigger bodies but is improving every week. He’ll push for league selection in the coming weeks.

Jordan Johns (for South reserves v Norwood reserves @ the Parade) - A good game from Jordan, playing mainly on the half back flank. He ran and carried the ball well and showed an improvement in his decision making. Just needs to string a few of these games together. Finished with 19 touches, 3 marks and 2 tackles.
