PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Ollie Wines was deemed by the coaches to be the best player on the ground in Saturday night’s win over Carlton.
Wines polled eight votes in the 2021 AFLCA CHAMPION PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD for his starring performance in the 28-point win.
The Port vice-captain finished with 32 disposals including 14 contested, as well as five marks, three tackles and seven clearances.
Wines was heavily involved in the action also having three score involvements, four inside 50s and 361 metres gained.
2020 best and fairest Darcy Byrne-Jones received seven votes for his 24 touches, nine marks and four tackles off half back, while fellow defender Aliir Aliir and midfielder Karl Amon each got five votes from the coaches.
Forward Todd Marshall’s career-high 19 and nine marks earned him one vote while Carlton’s Sam Walsh was his side’s lone vote recipient.
Four players across the competition scored the perfect 10 votes including Josh Dunkley from the Western Bulldogs, Melbourne’s Max Gawn, Brisbane’s Lachie Neale and Brandon Parfitt from Geelong.
Gawn now leads the voting with 32 votes, with Wines Port Adelaide’s best placed in seventh, eleven votes behind.
