PORT ADELAIDE will have its depth tested in an intriguing match against North Adelaide on Saturday at Alberton Oval.

Due to more injuries in the AFL side, the Magpies have lost Trent McKenzie for the first time this season and will debut two more names.

The SANFL had the week off last round due to the state round, and coach Matthew Lokan said it was good to freshen the boys up.

“It's nice to have a weekend off and freshen the boys up,” he said.

“North are in really good form at the moment, so it's going to be a pretty good game.

“Obviously, we've been hit with a few injuries over the last two weeks, it's taken away a bit of experience out of our team.”

Son of Port Adelaide champion Stephen, Miller Carter, will pull on the boots for the first time, while Nick Hooker will also get his first taste of action with the Magpies.

“With guys going out, guys like Nick and Miller will play their first games which is great for our footy club,” Lokan said.

“Miller's a really good story, I played with his dad Stephen when I first started at Port.

“It's a big opportunity for him and I know that it means a lot to him and his family to be able to play for Port Adelaide.”

“It's nice to be able to have the sons of the guys that you played with coming through. Jase Burgoyne's playing with us again this week. It's great to have some great Port Adelaide names playing in the SANFL team.

“Nick's one of those guys that probably plays 12 months of footy every year. He's played up in Darwin over the summer for the Tiwi Bombers, and then he's playing in the Barossa league.

“One thing I do know about him is that he's tough and he'll have a crack and we'll see how he goes.”

Port Adelaide’s clash with North Adelaide gets underway at 2.30pm today.
