Port Adelaide will be the second South Australian side to play the Collingwood in as many weeks after the Crows prevailed over the Magpies last Sunday.
Collingwood will be desperate to keep its season alive with a win over the Power, while Port will want to take four points home to Alberton and keep the pressure on the league's top four sides.
Power midfielder Hamish Hartlett is well aware of the quality line-up Nathan Buckley’s side brings to the game, having watched their battle against the Crows on Sunday.
His midfield group will go toe-to-toe with one devoid of the injured Dane Swan, but still laced with some of the biggest names in the game.
“I’ve got a general idea of how their midfield works, they’re a quality outfit obviously,” Hartlett told reporters on Monday.
“They’re probably relying on [Scott] Pendlebury a little bit more now that Dane Swan’s not there.
“But they’ve still got real quality through there: Dayne Beams, obviously, and Steele Sidebottom keep racking up the ball.
“Harry [Lumumba] spent a little bit of time in there as well, which is something new.”
The challenge itself will be significant, with Collingwood forced out of the top eight following its loss to the Crows.
Hartlett expects that to be motivation enough for Buckley’s side to bring their best game on Sunday.
“We know it’s going to be a really, really tough challenge. They [Collingwood] are fighting for that 7th/8th position at the moment,” Hartlett said.
“I heard Bucks speak pretty positively about the way they went about it, so they’ll get a little bit of confidence out of that.
“Their crowd’s usually quite hostile and that’s something we’ve not really been used to except for a couple of weeks ago against the Crows.”
The Power will enter the game fresh from a fortnight-long break after having its bye at the backend of Round 18.
It’s given the opportunity for a number of players, particularly Angus Monfries and Alipate Carlile, to get their bodies right for the important clash at the MCG.
“I feel really fresh physically and I had a bit of a run around yesterday – [that] felt really good, and it’s good mentally, to get away from footy for a couple of days.
“Speaking to some of the other guys, they said they felt really good as well and we’re looking forward to getting out tomorrow and Thursday.
“We certainly love going over to the ‘G and playing on those big open grounds to get our game going.”
Port Adelaide plays Collingwood at the MCG at 4:40pm (AEST) on Sunday 3 August.
