PORT ADELAIDE has reached the mid-season bye so we thought it was a perfect opportunity to reflect on the season so far, focussing on the statistics that matter.
Today we will look at some of the club’s leaders in key categories including goals, marks and tackles.
Port Adelaide has booted 141 goals in 2021, ranking it seventh in the AFL. The Western Bulldogs are the leader in this statistic with 158 goals so far.
Port Adelaide’s leading goalkicker is small forward Orazio Fantasia who has 19 majors in 10 games, closely followed by big man Charlie Dixon who has played one more game but booted one less goal.
The overall leader in the AFL is Carlton’s Harry McKay who has 38 goals from 11 games.

Aliir Aliir has been lauded since his arrival at Alberton for his ability to take intercept marks and halt an opposition attack, so there is no surprise that he leads the club for marks.
At an average of 6.82 per game, Aliir has taken a total of 75 marks in his 11 games this season, just ahead of midfielder Karl Amon who is perhaps a surprise accumulator of marks.
On average Boyd Woodcock is a surprise third, averaging 6.33 marks from three games with Xavier Duursma fourth (6.25 per game from four games) and Tom Clurey fifth (6.0 from nine games) but for this exercise we will look at total marks.

Tackles are traditionally the domain of those constantly around the ball so it is no surprise that midfielders dominate that statistic at Port Adelaide
Willem Drew is a surprise leader, unless you watch enough games to see how often he is burrowing out from the bottom of a pack after a contest.
His 62 total tackles in 11 games ranks him as the player with the tenth most tackles in the competition. Hugh Greenwood from the Gold Coast is the runaway overall leader with a whopping 94 tackles.
At Port Adelaide Ollie Wines and Travis Boak are among the other top tacklers, although on average Sam Powell-Pepper’s five tackles per game in his five games and Zak Butters’ 4.5 in four games ranks them third behind Drew’s average 5.64 tackles per game.

Scott Lycett is the runaway leader in the hit-out statistic with 205 hit-outs in his eight games compared with Peter Ladhams’ 98 in seven games.
Lycett is ranked eleventh overall, despite playing three games fewer than all of those above him, including the overall leader, Collingwod’s Brodie Grundy (389).

Carlton’s Jacob Weitering leads the competition for one per-centers with 108 overall.
One per-centers are generally dominated by defenders because they are broken into four categories - knock-ons, spoils, smothers, and shepherds.
At Port Adelaide, Tom Jonas leads the pack with 77, ranking him eleventh behind Weitering.

Last but not least, who rarely gets a rest?
Key position players usually dominate the time on ground statistic but in Port Adelaide’s case a couple of smaller players have snuck in.
Aliir Aliir has played a total of 1074 minutes in 2021, or 97.64 per-cent of all of Port Adelaide’s games.
Melbourne’s Jake Lever leads the competition with 1091 minutes played – ranking Aliir fifth overall.
