Mitchell was upgraded to the Power’s senior list this month and will hang up the No. 37 jumper he has worn since coming to the club for the 2013 season.
The hard-running midfielder will switch to the No. 2 vacated by Cameron Hitchcock.
The club’s talented Aboriginal small forwards Jake Neade and Karl Amon will also change their guernsey numbers, with Neade to don the No. 3 jumper while Amon will wear the No. 15.
The pair previously wore the No. 32 and 43 jumpers respectively.

While Neade and Amon have simply dropped to lower numbers for next season, Mitchell saw the opportunity change to the No. 2 as an opportunity to learn about its SANFL past.

Mitchell is just the fifth player to wear the number in the club’s AFL history.
“I researched the history of the No. 2 and saw that Tim Ginever wore it during his career in the SANFL,” Mitchell told portadelaidefc.com.au.
“He’s a former captain and coach of the club and has a big involvement with keeping the culture of the club’s SANFL history so I asked him if he was happy for me to wear it and he said yes.”
