The Port Adelaide Football Club congratulates Bob Gregory on his Member of Order (AM) Queen’s Birthday honour for significant service to the community of South Australia.
Mr Gregory was a Vice-President’s member of Port Adelaide in 1978, chair of the club’s Player Welfare Committee from 1997 to 1999 and has been a member of “Dad’s Army”, Port Adelaide’s loyal group of volunteers, since 1994.
Port Adelaide chief executive Matthew Richardson congratulated Mr Gregory on his Queen’s Birthday honour.
“On behalf of the entire Port Adelaide community I congratulate Bob and his family for being bestowed this momentous honour,” Mr Richardson said.
“Bob is a most worthy recipient having contributed so much to the broader community through his volunteer and advocacy roles, as well as his successful parliamentary career as the Member for Florey from 1982 to 1993.
“From a Port Adelaide perspective, he has contributed to the club for more than half a century, as a financial member, Vice-President’s member and chair of our Player Welfare Committee.
“Since 1994, Bob has also been a member of our much-loved Dad’s Army who provide countless hours of volunteer service for the club including cleaning, rubbish collecting and gardening. It was only last week I saw Bob out the front of our headquarters at Alberton pruning bushes to ensure our home here at Alberton looks like a showpiece.
“We thank Bob for his extraordinary dedication to Port Adelaide and see today’s Queen’s Birthday honour as a fitting exclamation mark to his contribution to our club and the broader South Australian community.”
Beyond his contribution to the Port Adelaide Football Club and as a South Australian Parliamentarian, Mr Gregory has for many years served the Lions Club of Modbury, Rose Society of South Australia, Disability Advocacy and Complaints Service of South Australia Inc. and the Roma Mitchell Community Legal Service in various roles.
